Potratz breaks home run record, Simpson goes 2-0

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Tieryn Potratz continued her assault on opposing pitchers and the Simpson record books at the Rebel Spring Games on Sunday.

Only a sophomore, Potratz hit two home runs in a 13-5 win over Endicott, improving her season total to seven and giving her 15 for her career, a new Simpson program record.

The Storm (8-4) beat Carthage earlier in the day, 7-1.

A native of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Potratz is two home runs away from setting the school record for home runs in a season. She hit eight home runs as a freshman in 2010, tying the single-season mark.

Simpson 7, Carthage 1
Kacee Arey handcuffed Carthage in the circle, allowing only three hits in six innings in the Storm's 7-1 win.

Arey (4-0) stuck out eight and remained undefeated on the season. Kiersten Ruff had three RBIs and Keri Sorensen went 3-for-5, driving in a pair.

Ruff produced the first three runs of the game, plating a two-RBI single in the first and bringing Sorensen home off a sacrifice fly in the third. An RBI single by Sorensen scored two more in the fourth, Veronica Roshek doubled in a run in the sixth and Allie Hock had a run-scoring single in the sixth.

Simpson 13, Endicott 5
After falling behind 3-0 in the first 1 1/2 innings, Simpson scored four in the second and five in the third on the way to an easy 13-5 win over Endicott.

The Storm out-hit Endicott 12-9 and took advantage of three Gull errors.

Bryn Johnson picked up the win in the circle. Amanda Enochs had two hits and four RBIs and Roshek had three hits and two RBIs.

Simpson has Monday off and will face Springfield and Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday.
