Simpson goes 2-0 on final day of tournament

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Carrissa Coopman scored the winning run on a wild pitch in a 2-1 win against St. Benedict and Simpson cruised past Hood, 11-1 in on the final day of the Rebel Spring Games on Saturday.

The Storm (13-7) scored two runs in the seventh inning against St. Benedict, closing out play at the Rebel Spring Games 10-4. The four games Simpson lost were by a combined four runs.

Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the seventh, a leadoff triple by Chelsea Winegard sparked Simpson to a 2-1 comeback win against St. Benedict.

A pinch-hitter, Winegard tripled and scored on a Coopman single. Coopman took third on a double by Tieryn Potratz and scored on a wild pitch for the win.

Allison Barloon picked up the win, facing two over the minimum in the final three innings while striking out three.

Winegard was a triple away from the cycle, going 3-for-3 with a walk in Simpson's 11-1 win.

Barloon earned her second win in the start, tossing four innings of shutout ball. Keri Sorensen went 2-for-4.

Simpson scored three runs in the first, three in the fifth and five in the sixth, out-hitting Hood 12-3.

Simpson begins its home schedule on Tuesday, March 29 when it hosts Westminster in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
