Roshek named Academic All-District

INDIANOLA - A second team all-conference softball player, third team all-district performer and academic all-conference selection, Simpson junior outfielder Veronica Roshek can add another academic honor to her resume.

Roshek earned Capital One Academic All-District First Team honors in District Seven of the College Division for the 2011 season, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). An English major from Urbandale, Iowa, Roshek owns a cumulative 3.87 GPA, meeting the minimum requirement of 3.30 for consideration.

The left-handed slap-hitter led the Storm with a .421 batting average throughout the season. Her average was the highest by a Simpson player since 2008 and her 56 hits tied for fourth in program history. She hit .400 against Iowa Conference foes.

Roshek started in all 42 games for the Storm, helping the team to a 24-18 record and a third-place finish at the Iowa Conference Softball Tournament. She slugged .534 and owned a team-high .480 on-base percentage with one home run and 14 RBIs. Her 12 doubles tied for the team lead with Keri Sorensen and are the fourth-most by a Simpson player in a single-season. As a baserunner, she was a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases.

Roshek joined Luther junior catcher Kelsey Kittleson as the only two Iowa Conference representatives on the first team. For a complete list of Academic All-District honorees, click here.
