Simpson adds two more wins, Potratz continues tear

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Tieryn Potratz set two home run records and Simpson went 2-0 at the Rebel Spring Games on Tuesday. Simpson beat Springfield 3-2 and cruised past Rutgers-Camden 15-1 in five innings.

With the wins, the Storm improve to 10-4 on the year and are 7-1 during Spring Break.

Potratz set a single-game record when she hit three home runs as part of a 4-for-4, six RBI effort against Rutgers-Camden. The outburst improved her season home run total to 10, breaking the old record of eight she tied as a freshman in 2010.

The sophomore from Fort Dodge, Iowa had seven RBIs on the day, driving in the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh against Springfield. Her six RBIs against Rutgers-Camden were one away from tying a school record.

Potratz hit a two-out, walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

Jessica Toyne led off the inning with a single and pinch-runner Leslie Downing scored the winning run.

Kacee Arey (5-0) picked up the win, tossing a complete-game, one-hitter. She struck out three.

The Storm punished Scarlet Raptor pitching to the tune of 22 hits and scored nine runs in the third inning.

Potratz went 4-for-4, hit three home runs and drove in six runs. Allie Hock and Carissa Coopman added three hits apiece.

Allison Barloon (1-1) earned her first career win in the circle, holding Rutgers-Camden scoreless in four innings. Bryn Johnson tossed the final inning.

Simpson continues play in the Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday, when it faces Illinois Wesleyan at 3 p.m. EST and St. Norbert at 5.
