Simpson hosts Iowa Conference Softball Tournament

INDIANOLA, Iowa – After earning the program's fifth conference title and first since 2000, the Simpson softball team will host the Iowa Conference Softball Tournament on May 6-8 at Simpson Softball Complex in Indianola.

One of the most competitive conferences in the country, three nationally ranked teams and four teams ranked in the in the top eight in the Midwest Region invade Indianola for the six-team, double elimination tournament.

The Storm (29-8, 14-2 IIAC) enter the tournament with the top seed and a first-round bye. Simpson is ranked No. 22 in the nation and second in the Midwest Region. Conference runner-up, Luther (34-5, 13-2) has the No. 2 seed, and is ranked No. 5 in the nation and third in the region. The Norse also enjoy a first-round bye. Third-seeded Central (26-9, 12-4) enters the tournament ranked No. 12 in the nation and fifth in the region.

Defending Iowa Conference Tournament Champion and national runner-up, Coe (23-14, 9-7) is ranked seventh in the region and owns the No. 4 seed in the tournament. Buena Vista (15-17, 7-9) has the No. 5 seed and Loras (16-19, 5-11) comes in as the sixth seed.

Play will begin Thursday afternoon, with fourth-seeded Coe taking on fifth-seeded Buena Vista at 1 p.m. Simpson's first game will be at 5 p.m. against the winner of Coe and Buena Vista.
