Simpson defeats Fontbonne and Anderson

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Simpson softball team earned a pair of victories Saturday at the Rebel Spring Games, beating Fontbonne 4-1 and Anderson 3-2.

After winning the opening contest of the Spring Games Thursday with a 9-0 win over Regis, Simpson's record stands at 6-3 overall.

Against Fontbonne, pitcher Whitney Oviatt controlled the action, going the distance while allowing only six hits and striking out six. The run scored by Fontbonne was unearned. Tieryn Potratz, Veronika Roshek, Keri Sorensen and Allie Hock all collected two hits for the Storm.

In the second game of the day, Simpson failed to push a run across the plate in the first six innings. Then, in the seventh, Simpson came alive for three wins to earn the win.

With Brynn Johnson on first, Potratz homered over the centerfield fence to tie the game. Roshek singled and moved to second on a sacrifice by Kelsie Host. After Sorensen was intentially walked, Kelsey Castensen doubled down the left field line to give Simpson the win.

Kacee Arey earned the win for Simpson, striking out eight and allowing six hits. Roshek had three hits.

Simpson faces Rowan and William Anderson Sunday.
