Simpson sweeps Westminster in non-conference action

FULTON, Mo. - Tieryn Potratz (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) hit a pair of homers and Kortney Proctor (Wilton, Iowa/Wilton) drove in six runs as Simpson's offense lit up the scoreboard for 20 runs in a doubleheader sweep of non-conference foe Westminster at Blue Jay Field Sunday afternoon.

Simpson won game one 9-1 in six innings before notching an 11-0, six-inning win in the nightcap.

Potratz hit her sixth and seventh long balls of the season in game one while driving in three runs for the Storm (22-7). She ended the day with five RBIs while leading a Simpson team that saw each of its starters collect at least one hit in the doubleheader.

The bulk of the run production came from Proctor, who homered and doubled in the nightcap, driving home two runs in each at-bat. She added a two-RBI double in game one, as Simpson collected 21 hits and 10 walks against the Blue Jays (6-21).

Keri Sorensen (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) contributed three hits and four RBIs while Jessica Barkley (Mitchellville, Iowa/Southeast Polk) and Allie Hock (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) also added three hits a-piece. Hock also drove in two runs.

In the circle Bryn Johnson (Laurens, Iowa/Laurens) and Jessica Toyne (Bellevue, Neb./East) carried the load, as each picked up a win. Johnson went the distance while allowing four hits and a run in game one while Toyne gave up only three hits and struck out five in game two. Whitney Oviatt (Carnation, Wash./Cedarcrest) tossed a flawless inning of relief in the second game.

Simpson looks forward to a six-game week, beginning with a non-conference doubleheader at Grinnell Tuesday, April 20.
