Simpson loses tight contests to William Patterson, Rowan

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Simpson softball team dropped contests to William Patterson and Rowan Sunday at the Rebel Spring Games. William Patterson defeated Simpson 3-2 in eight innings in game one and Rowan beat the Storm 8-4 in game two.

With the losses, Simpson's record moves to 6-5 on the year.

In game one, Simpson and William Patterson carried a 1-1 tie into the eighth inning. In the top of the eighth, William Patterson plated a pair of runs under the International Tiebreaker Rule. The Storm could only get one run across in the bottom half.

Whitney Oviatt went the distance in the circle, allowing nine hits and three earned runs while striking out six and walking one in the loss. Allie Hock led Simpson at the plate, going 4-for-4. Veronika Roshek went 2-for-2.

In the second game, Rowan put up five runs throughout the second and third innings in building a 6-1 lead. The Storm scored three runs in the fifth.

Jessica Toyne got the start for Simpson, but left in the second inning. She took the loss. Keri Sorensen had two hits.

Simpson has the day off Monday before returning to action Tuesday agaisnt Rutgers Camden and Springfield.
