Edwardson earns national academic award

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson cross country runner Ryan Edwardson earned  2011 Division III All-Academic Cross Country status, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) last week.

A senior religion and psychology double-major from Spencer, Iowa, Edwardson carried a 3.606 cumulative GPA into the fall semester. He finished his career with a second trip to the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2011, placing 205th. He earned all-conference and all-region honors and became the Storm's first two-time national qualifier since Dave Halferty went in 1987 and 89.

Edwardson was one of 141 runners in the nation to earn the distinction. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships.
