Edwardson wins Dan Huston Invite, Storm place seventh

WAVERLY, Iowa - Ryan Edwardson won in convincing fashion and the Simpson men's cross country team placed eighth at the Dan Huston Invitational on Saturday.

Despite Edwardson's great individual performance, first-year head coach Heath Moenck wasn't completely satisfied with the way his team ran.

"Our men's team didn't have a great team race today, but we are confident that we will improve from today," Moenck said. "Our best is still to come."

Edwardson dominated the 174-man field, finishing in front of second-place Brian Pollastrini of Augustana by 40 seconds. He crossed the finish line in 25:35.

"Ryan had an aboslute tremendous race today," Moenck said. "To win by that large of a margin against a very strong field is a great accomplishment."

John Warnke was the Storm's next finisher, taking 34th (27:24). Mitchell Davis placed 47th (27:50), Matt Stone came in 63rd (28:25) and Jake Sutton took 67th (28:31).

Mark Foster's 29:13 was good for 91st and Zach Thompson rounded out Simpson's top seven in 103rd (Zach Thompson).

Simpson returns to the course on Saturday, Oct. 15th when it competes in the  Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational in West Salem, Wis.
