Edwardson named IIAC Runner of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Simpson men's cross country runner Ryan Edwardson earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Runner of the Week honors for the period ending Oct. 9, the conference office announced late Monday.
Edwardson, a senior from Spencer, Iowa, won the first meet of his career in dominating fashion at the Dan Huston Invitational in Waverly, Iowa, on Saturday, Oct. 8. Completing the 8-kilometer course in 25:35, Edwardson finished 40 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher in the field of 174 runners. He led the entire second half of the race.
The honor is the second of Edwardson's career and first of 2011. As a junior, Edwardson advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championship, where he placed 222.
Edwardson and his teammates travel to the Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational in West Salem, Wis. on Oct. 15. The Iowa Conference Championships take place Oct. 29 in Decorah, Iowa.
