Men's tennis drops A-R-C doubleheader

PELLA, Iowa -- Simpson men's tennis dropped both matches of an American Rivers Conference doubleheader on Saturday, falling to Central and Luther.

The Storm (3-8) lost to the Dutch, 9-0, and tried to split the day against the Norse, but fell 7-2.

Match One
Central 9, Simpson 0
Matt Turnley was the Storm's glimmer of hope in a tough outing against the Dutch on Saturday. Turnley fell in his first set, but rebounded to win the second set, 6-2, to force a third. In a competitive final set, Turnley lost 10-5.

Turnley continued his effort into doubles play with partner Ethan Humble. The duo tallied six games in an 8-6 loss against Central's David Boschma and Trey Melvin.

Match Two
Luther 7, Simpson 2
Caleb Vasconez defeated Luther's Nicolas Martinez at No. 6 singles, providing the Storm's lone singles triumph on the afternoon. Vasconez picked up his fifth-straight singles win, remaining undefeated over the last two weeks.

Aaron Price and hot-handed partner, Vasconez, earned the only victory for Simpson in doubles play. The duo bested Connor Fuzzey and Dylan Determan in an 8-3 contest.
