Storm men open spring schedule with win

MOLINE, Ill. -- For the second time in three seasons, the Simpson men's tennis team started its spring slate with a victory. The Storm won 7-2 at St. Ambrose on Saturday to even their record at 1-1.

Reade Reiter opened with a win at No. 1 singles for his first of the season. Reiter took game one, 6-4 and followed with a 6-1 decision to take the two-set triumph.

Brett Dewerff had to use more energy to tally a win at No. 2 singles in a three-set thriller. Dewerff dropped the first set and notched the second to force a third and deciding set. Dewerff ended up winning 13-11 to put Simpson up 2-0 over the Fighting Bees.

Aaron Price gave the Storm a 3-1 lead after owning 6-3, 6-2 decisions at No. 5 singles to sweep his opponent. Ethan Humble claimed a pair of 6-3 wins to overmatch his foe at No. 6 singles.

Simpson cruised to three wins in doubles plays to sweep the pair matches. Reiter and Dewerff teammed up for an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles. Matt Turnley and Peter Walkwitz rebounded with an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles after the duo dropped their singles matches. Caleb Vasconez and Aaron Price won 8-4 as well.

Up Next
The Storm return to action next Saturday, Feb. 8 in a pair of matches at Cornell College. Simpson opens the day with a contest against Elmhurst and ends against the Rams.
