Men’s tennis ends weekend with split

ELSAH, Ill. -- On Saturday, the men's tennis team split the day against Principia and Webster. The Storm fell 8-1 to the Panthers, but rebounded in match two, defeating the Gorlocks, 5-4, to end the weekend on a high note.

Simpson men's tennis moved to 2-1 on the weekend and 3-6 for spring season play.

Match One
Principia 8, Simpson 1
A tough outing against Principia was highlighted by Caleb Vasconez's sole win for the Storm in singles play. Vasconez defeated his No. 6 opponent in a dramatic three-set match, 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 10-6. Aaron Price and Ethan Humble both fought until the end, each winning four games in their final set, but couldn't complete the comeback.

In doubles competition, Vasconez and Price were the closest to victory for the Storm. The duo tallied four games against their Panther opponent, losing 8-4.

Match Two
Simpson 5, Webster 4
Vasconez earned his second victory of the day, completing a perfect match against Webster's Harsh Jaswal. Humble also won his singles match, only allowing his opponent three points in a 6-1, 6-2 triumph. Matt Turnley prevailed over No. 3 Justin Weaver. Turnley controlled the sets, winning both 6-2. Price rounded out singles play for Simpson, beating Nicolas Andrade 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 4 slot.

Vasconez and Price paced Simpson's doubles play, dominating their contest against the Gorloks, 8-2.

Up Next
The Storm continue conference play next weekend on March 7 against Central and Luther in Pella, Iowa.
