Storm men come up short against Cornell

INDIANOLA - The Simpson men's tennis team forced deciding sets in three matches but fell to Cornell 9-0 on Thursday.

The Storm (4-18, 1-6 Iowa Conference) complete the 2011 season Friday, April 29 when they host league-leading Coe at Buxton Memorial Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 4 p.m.

The teams of Alex Hook (West Des Moines, Iowa) and Adam Summitt (Urbandale, Iowa) at No. 1 doubles and Lucas Haack (Ankeny, Iowa) and Dylan Hogan (Fort Madison, Iowa) at No. 3 nearly gave Simpson an early 2-1 lead. But Hook and Summitt fell to Justin Bradfield and Tyler Shonkwiler in a thriller, 9-8 (10-8). At the third spot, Haack and Hogan got out to a 7-1 lead on Garrett Russikoff and Joseph Reyes before falling 9-7.

Summitt fought hard again at No. 1 singles, falling to Bradfield 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Noah Saunders (Marshalltown, Iowa) won the second set against Orion Wilkinson to force a third, but fell 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.

Friday marks the final competition for seniors Haack and Saunders.
