Storm men split weekend action

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Powered by a strong singles showing and three, third-set wins, Simpson picked up a win against Concordia (Wis.) en-route to a 1-1 showing last weekend.

Playing at UW-Eau Claire, the Storm (2-7) lost to the No. 14 Bluegolds 9-0 before earning an exciting 6-3 win against Concordia.

A tightly contested dual, 4 of 6 singles matches with the Falcons were decided in the third set. Alex Hook got things going at No. 1 singles, dropping the first set 6-3 before rallying with 6-1 and 10-8 wins over Brian Tresedder.

Adam Summitt looked to be on his way to a win in straight sets at the second spot against Skip Turner before losing a tiebreaker in the second set. But he rallied in set three for the win, 6-1, 6-7 (7-3), 10-3. Nathan Liston earned Simpson's third, three-set win at No. 5 singles, beating Nate Hoeppner 7-5, 2-6, 10-6.

Daniel Schneider earned an easy two-set win over Taylor Shaffer at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Lucas Haack fell in the final three-set match to Miciah Greatens at No. 6, 3-6, 6-1, 10-8.

Simpson took two of three doubles matches to start the day. The No. 1 doubles team of Hook and Summitt beat Pat Schramka and Turner, 8-4, while Schneider and Saunders beat Tresedder and Russell Johnson 8-6 at No. 2.

Simpson is off for Spring Break and returns to action March 26 when it hosts Wartburg at Buxton Memorial Tennis Complex in a 2 p.m. start.
