Storm beat Loras, earn first IIAC win of the season
INDIANOLA - The Simpson mens' tennis split a pair of Iowa Conference matcheson Saturday, beating Loras 8-1 and losing to Dubuque 7-2.
The Storm (4-15, 1-3 Iowa Conference) swept the doubles competition against Loras and took 5 of 6 singles matches.
Alex Hook and Adam Summitt beat Jared Levy and John Blesz 8-5 at the No. 1 spot, Noah Saunders and Daniel Schneider beat John Keane and Justin Steines 8-5 at No. 2 and Lucas Haack and Dylan Hogan notched an 8-6 win over Jeff Kassel and Pat Hopson at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Summitt beat Blesz 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2, setting the pace for a dominating performance by the Storm. Saunders topped Keane 6-1, 6-1, Hogan toppled Steines 6-2, 6-4, Schneider cruised past Kasel 6-1, 6-3 and Haack beat Hopson 6-4, 6-1.
Wins were tougher to come by in the days first match, as Simpson managed two wins in the loss to Dubuque. The No. 2 doubles team of Saunders and Schneider picked up an 8-2 win over Michael Braden and Dishon Deering and Haack earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Deering at No. 6 singles.
Nathan Liston had a chance at No. 4 singles, dropping a the only three-set match of the contest to Braden, 5-7, 6-1, 11-9.
Simpson returns to action Tuesday, April 12 when it hosts Central in a 4 p.m. match at Buxton Memorial Tennis Complex.
