Simpson blanks North Central, wins second in a row

INDIANOLA - The Simpson men's tennis team won its second match in a row with a 9-0 blanking of North Central (Minn.) on a blustery Friday in Indianola.

The Storm (3-11) swept through doubles play to start the match then kept the momentum in singles for the shutout.

The first two doubles teams of Alex Hook and Adam Summit and Daniel Schneider and Noah Saunders won 8-2. Dylan Hogan and Lucas Haack put the finishing touches on the doubles competition with a tough 8-6 win over Alex Sanjan and Zach Claussen at No. 3 doubles.

Hook got things started in singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tyler McIver at the No. 1 spot. Summitt took care of Taylor Jarman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and Saunders cruised past Josiah Tonder 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3.

At the fourth spot Schneider beat Sanjan 6-3, 6-1. Nathan Liston won a close tiebreaker at No. 5, beating Dakota Frazier 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 at No. 5. Haack added a 6-0, 6-4 win over Mike Svoboda to close out the Storm's second win in a row.

Simpson has a short rest before traveling to Storm Lake on Saturday where it will face Buena Vista and Morningside. The BV match begins at 11 a.m. with the Morningside match to follow at 2 p.m.
