Ordaz Zambrano notches game-winner in final seconds

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Sophomore Ronaldo Ordaz Zambrano connected on the game-winner with three seconds left to lift Simpson College men's soccer to a 2-1 victory at Loras to begin American Rivers Conference play on Saturday.

The Storm (3-4-1, 1-0-0 A-R-C) have now scored with five minutes left in back-to-back meetings with the Duhawks (6-4-1, 1-1-0 A-R-C) to prevent them from earning a win. In the last matchup on April 25, 2021, Simpson scored a goal in the 87th minute to tie the game at 3-3 to prevent Loras from winning the A-R-C Championship.

With the final 10-second countdown coming through the speakers at the Rock Bowl, Ordaz Zambrano was able to head the ball in from 15 yards out for his second goal of the season and first career game-winner to ignite a celebration from the Simpson bench onto the pitch.

Just five minutes earlier, Simpson knotted the game at 1-1 on a goal by senior Enrique Idehen in the 85th minute. He tallied his third of the season and 23rd of his career to keep the team's hopes alive.

The Duhawks grabbed the lead in the 32nd on Patrick Clancy's seventh goal of the season.

The Storm won the shot advantage, 15-11, with 10 of those occurring in the second half. Junior Roderick Orellana-Lemus ended with four shots, and junior Jordy Triana-Vasquez, Idehen and Ordaz Zambrano both had two.

Freshman William Kopp collected his third win of the season with three saves in net for Simpson tonight. This is the fewest goals Loras has scored since being shutout against No. 12 North Park on Sept. 8.
