Ibarra clinches victory with overtime goal for Simpson

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A late goal by junior Jordy Triana-Vasquez forced overtime before senior Ricardo Ibarra connected on the game-winner for Simpson College men's soccer in a 2-1 victory at Hamline on Saturday.

"We survived our first road contest of the year," head coach Rick Isaacson said. "It was an underwhelming performance, but any road win at this level should be considered a positive result."

The Pipers (0-2) scored in the 15th minute and came less than two minutes away from a shutout triumph before Triana-Vasquez scored his fifth goal this week in the 89th minute to knot the game.

"I can't say enough about Jordy Triana-Vasquez," Isaacson said. "He's on an absolute terror right now. He's going to be a handful for our opponents to prepare for this fall."

After a shot by junior Mateaus Lewis went out of the backline in overtime, Triana-Vasquez was tasked with the corner kick. The Clive, Iowa native sent the ball in front of goal that allowed senior Ricardo Ibarra to connect on the game-winner in the 92nd minute during the team's second overtime appearance in its last three games.

Simpson held the advantage all afternoon with 18 shot attempts, compared to Hamline's three. Twelve of those attempts occurred in the second half to set up the late rally.

Freshman William Kopp tallied his second straight victory in goal for the Storm with two saves.
