Hennings named IIAC Athlete of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Fueled by a career night against Buena Vista, Simpson men's basketball player Austin Hennings earned Iowa Conference Men's Basketball Player and Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Feb. 3.
A sophomore forward from Coucil Bluffs, Iowa, Hennings averaged 22 points and 10.5 rebounds as the Storm suffered back-to-back overtime losses to Buena Vista (76-74 on Jan. 30) and Luther (93-86 on Feb. 2), the two teams currently tied atop the league standings.
He had a 32-point, 14-rebound double-double on 11-of-18 shooting against Buena Vista, his second double-double of the season. Hennings also hit a game-tying trey after rebounding a previous miss in the final seconds of overtime against the Beavers. Against Luther, Hennings posted 12 points and 7 rebounds in 22 minutes.
The Storm (6-15, 2-8) are currently tied with two other teams for the sixth and final spot in the IIAC Tournament. Simpson travels to Wartburg on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
