ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Chris Hortman scored 21 points to lead three players in double figures and UW-Stout beat Simpson 79-49 in the championship game of the Perkins Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Bethel on Saturday night.
Alex Oman added 20 points and Jarvis Ragland 18 for the Blue Devils (2-0), who held Simpson to 35 percent shooting from the field.
Austin Hennings scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Storm (1-1), who never led in the game.
Stout led by 11 at halftime and used a 10-0 break early in the second to pull away for good. Hortman hit two 3s and a layup during the stretch, which gave the Blue Devils a 46-27 lead before Leif Olson stopped the bleeding with a layup.
Hortman went 3-for-4 beyond the arc and Ragland went 4-for-5. As a team, Simpson made 4 of 22 attempts from long range.
Simpson goes to Grand View on Tuesday, Nov. 20. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
