Volleyball caps off perfect weekend

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – Tabitha Blaser had a monster day and Simpson won the final two games of the IIAC-NACC Crossover, capping a perfect 4-0 weekend.

The Storm (12-2) beat Aurora 3-0 (25-18, 32-30, 25-16) and Concordia (Wis.) 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22) on Saturday.

Blaser finished the day with 38 kills, fueled by a career-high 25 in the Concordia match. Katie Kieffer had 86 assists and Kim Rogers had 51 digs.

Simpson hit .270 against Aurora, getting 13 kills from Blaser. Haley Danforth and Kat Wetjen chipped in with nine and eight, respectively, while MacKenzie McGraw and Morgan Terpstra each had seven and three blocks.

In the final game of the tournament, Simpson was actually out-hit by Concordia, .194-.176. But Blaser was too much to contend with, as the sophomore had a match-high 25 kills in 66 attempts. Wetjen added 11 kills, Rogers had 28 digs and McGraw had four blocks.

It took Simpson just 14 games to match its win total from a year ago.

Simpson faces a big test Wednesday, Oct. 2 with a road match against Iowa Conference preseason favorite, Wartburg. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m.
