Simpson tennis teams suffer a pair of defeats

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson men's tennis team dropped their first match of the year to Iowa Central Community College, while the women fell to Central College in an American Rivers Conference match.

For the men, Drake Downard and Chase Henry combined to win a point at No. 3 doubles for the Storm (0-1). While the Storm were competitive in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, the Tritons claimed both to take a 2-1 lead into the single competition.

Aaron Price had a chance in set two at No. 3 singles, but narrowly fell. The Tritons swept the rest of the singles matches to claim a 8-1 win.

The men return for their home opener against St. Ambrose, Tuesday, at 3:30 p.m.

The Storm women were blanked by Central, as they fell in A-R-C play for the second consecutive match. Bella Tranquilino was the standpoint performer, but narrowly lost the first set tiebreak in her No. 1 singles match.

The women now gear up for the ITA Midwest Regionals, beginning next Friday at Gustavus Adolphus college.
