Storm softball rolls through Cornell to cap off 2025 regular season

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - In the regular season finale, the Simpson softball team put on a show, outscoring Cornell 18-1 on the road to finish 31-6 overall on the year.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Simpson wasted no time to put the pressure on Cornell, starting the game with three runs in the opening frame on RBI hits from James and Shaner.
  • Simpson added another three in the second on more RBI knocks from Heidelbauer, Ehlers, and James to make it 6-0.
  • In the third, the Storm more than doubled the lead, making it 13-0, with seven more runs and capped off with a two-run home run from Ginnaty.
  • After a Heidelbauer RBI triple in the fourth, Simpson scored four more in the fifth on hits from Gookin and Walls to run away with the 18-1 victory.
  • The top four in the order of Steen, Heidelbauer, Ehlers, and James combined for 10 hits, driving in 11 runs, scoring 10 times, and collecting six extra base hits.
  • LaFave went the first two scoreless innings with two strikeouts, followed by Breckner going two innings, and Cronin tossing the final shutout inning.

UP NEXT

Simpson returns home as the host of the 2025 A-R-C Softball Tournament after earning the top overall seed. The tournament is set to begin Friday, May 9 with the first game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Simpson is scheduled to play in the tournament on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against the winner of the first game.
