
Storm continue hot start with doubleheader win in Florida
CLERMONT, Fla. - The Storm continued their hot start of the season, securing wins over the University of New England, 6-4, and Plattsburg, 10-1, on Monday afternoon to improve to 7-1 on the year.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- The University of New England jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the second inning with two two-RBI singles.
- Simpson responded in the bottom half of the second, starting with a bases-clearing double from Kriegel to cut the lead down to 4-3.
- Later in the inning, with one swing of the bat, Heidelbauer put the Storm on top with a two-run home run to center. Bruening added one more insurance run with her double to center, scoring James to make it a 6-4 ballgame.
- Tucker got the start in the circle, going the first three innings, allowing four runs, all unearned, on five hits, and one strikeout.
- Franklin was called on to close out the final four innings, and the junior responded with four shutout innings, allowing just two hits, and striking out one to earn the win.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- Simpson quickly put the pressure on Plattsburgh, scoring four in the first, and another four in the second.
- Shaner got the scoring going with an RBI single in the first, followed by an error by Plattsburgh that allowed three runs to score as Simpson jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
- Heidelbauer delivered again in the second inning, this time a two RBI triple to right putting Simpson up 6-0.
- A sac fly from Ehlers, and an RBI single from James closed out the second with the Storm leading 8-0.
- Simpson put the final touches on in the fourth, scoring an error, and an RBI single to center from Peterson as the Storm cruised to the 10-1 victory.
- LaFave earned her third victory of the season in the circle, going the full five innings, allowing just one run on five hits, with three strikeouts.
