Simpson claims two more wins in dramatic fashion; improves to 13-1 on the year

CLERMONT, Fla. - For back-to-back games, a seventh-inning home run lifted the Storm to victory as Simpson knocked off Wisconsin-Stout 5-3 before handling Macalester 9-5 to improve to 13-1 on the season.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ehlers started the game with a solo shot to left in the first to put Simpson up early 1-0.
  • Ginnaty added to the Storm's lead in the second inning with her solo home run to left, making it a 2-0 ballgame.
  • Stout responded in the bottom half of the second, scoring one run to get on the board before taking a 3-2 lead in the third.
  • The Storm's bat went quiet until the seventh inning, starting with a lead-off walk from Obleton. After a strikeout, Steen singled up the middle to put the game-tying run on first.
  • Heidelbauer stepped to the plate and delivered the clutch go-ahead three-run home run to deep left center to put Simpson back on top 5-3.
  • Tucker, who came on to pitch in the third, closed out the game in the bottom of the seventh with a foul out, groundout, and finally a strikeout.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Macalester jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single to left.
  • Simpson responded right away, scoring two in the bottom half of the inning, first with a solo shot from Heidelbauer, followed by a dropped third strike and throwing error that allowed Ehlers to come home.
  • Heidelbauer continued her hot streak at the plate, this time driving in two on a single to kick-off the second.
  • Later in the inning, after an error by Macalester allowed one run to score, Shaner drove in one run on a sac-fly to make it 6-1 Simpson.
  • Gookin completed the seven-run inning with a three-run blast to center, blowing open the lead to 9-1 in just the second inning.
  • Macalester managed to trim into the lead over the final innings, scoring one in the fourth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh before being shut down for the 9-5 win.
