Moon wins sixth individual career title with career-best time

ASHLAND, Neb. - Spencer Moon continued his brilliant season and career by claiming his sixth career individual cross country title at the Platte River Rumble with a blistering 8K time of 23:34.2, Friday, at Mahoney State Park.

Moon's performance was even more outstanding considering that most of the 147-runner field was made up of Division I and Division II schools. Moon's time was his career-best 8K time and the fastest since 2019. Additionally, it was Moon's first time under the 24-minute barrier.

"Spencer Moon was incredible today," said head coach Heath Moenck. "To win by that margin over that talented of a field was fun to watch."

The entirety of Simpson's scoring lineup, as well as others that were outside the scoring lineup, also set career bests in the distance. Senior Ean Warrick was the second Storm runner to cross the finish line, finishing in 37th with a time of 25:29.7. Cade Mash was not far behind, coming in at 40th overall with a time of 25:34.1.

Andrew Klein set his career best by three seconds in a time of 25:40.2, checking in at 43rd overall. Marc Medici continued his impressive campaign by rounding off the scoring part of the Simpson lineup, placing 53rd overall in a time of 25:47.4.

The Storm placed sixth overall and were the top Division III team at the meet, also defeating American Rivers Conference opponent Buena Vista. "Our men are putting the pieces together for an exciting last few meets and today was a good step forward," said Moenck.

With the non-conference races now complete, the Storm will host the A-R-C Championships in just over two weeks.
