Wheatley named IIAC Track Athlete of the Week

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Simpson's Emmitt Wheatley won three events and posted the conference's top time in the 100-meter dash at the Central Open on Saturday, earning Iowa Conference Track Performer of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, April 24, the league office annoucned Tuesday.

A freshman from Adair, Iowa, Wheatley becomes the second straight Storm sprinter to win the award after Dylan Kalinay took home the honor last week.

Wheatley won the 100, 200 and ran the lead leg on the winning 4x100 relay Saturday. His 10.75-second effort in the 100 leads the Iowa Conference, ranks 20th in Division III and ranks third in school history. He ran 21.92 in the 200, the No. 3 time in the IIAC and fourth-fastest time in school history. 

In the 4x100, Wheatley teammed up with Chase Wetterling, Travis Tupper and Davey Jergens to run 42.06, the fastest time posted by a Simpson team since 1993. The effort is the second-fastest in school history, third fastest in the IIAC this season and 34th fastest in Division III.

Wheatley, the IIAC indoor champion in the 200 meters, wins the award for the first time.
