Frazier named IIAC Athlete of the Week

INDIANOLA, Iowa - On the heels of an MVP performance at the 2016 Iowa Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, Isaac Frazier earned IIAC Field Performer and co-Athlete of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday.

A junior from Marion, Iowa, Frazier - the IIAC Field MVP - shared the award with Central's Cole Decker, the IIAC Track MVP.

Frazier had a busy weekend in Storm Lake, racking up 31 of Simpson's 100 points. He won the heptathlon, placed second in the 60-meter hurdles and the high jump and came in fourth in the triple jump. He led Simpson to a third-place finish, matching the program's best since the conference began holding indoor championships in 2003.

The Field Performer of the Week honor is the second of the season for Frazier, who was also a first team all-conference defensive end on the football team.

Frazier scored a career-best 4,654 points to win the heptathlon. The grueling seven-event competition spanned both days of the championship and overlapped with several of his other events. While finishing up the heptathlon, Frazier cleared 6-feet, 6 inches on his third attempt in the high jump to take second. He added a surprising finish in the 60 hurdles, running a career-best 8.40 seconds to take second after entering with the No. 7 qualifying time. He hit the sand in 43-feet, 8 1/2 inches to take fourth in the triple jump.

Frazier's heptathlon score is currently No. 16 in Division III.
