McKenzie, sprinters pace men's track and field at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa - Dylan Kalinay won the 60-meter hurdles, the 4x200 relay team added a title and the Simpson men's track and field team placed third of 10 teams at Grinnell's Darren Young Classic on Saturday.

The sprinters took center stage for the Storm on Saturday, dominating the 200 meters and getting an impressive debut from a freshman speedster. 

Highlights

• Competing in his first collegiate meet, Emmitt Wheatley placed second in the 200 meters, second in the long jump and third in the 60 meters. He crossed the finish line in 22.83 seconds in the 200, the third-fastest time in the Iowa Conference and fifth-fastest in school history. His 7.12 in the 60 is the second-fastest time in the conference.
• Kalinay won the 60 hurdles in 8.34 seconds, his second straight win in the event. 
• Simpson also won the 4x200 relay, as the team of Travis Tupper, Prince Krah, Trevor McKee and Nick Hernandez finished in 1:32.19.
• Simpson dominated the 200. In addition to Wheatley taking second, Kalinay came in fourth (22.95), Tupper took fifth (23.09) and Krah placed sixth (23.27).
• Ian McKenzie placed third in the 3,000 meters. His 8:46.01 is the third-fastest in school history and fastest since 2013.
• Isaac Frazier had a good all-around day, placing second in the 60 hurdles (8.55), second in the high jump (6-5 1/2), fourth in the triple jump (42-4) and fifth in the long jump (20-3).
