Simpson wins seven events on Friday evening

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Simpson College men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined for seven first-place finishes in their first official dual meet of the season against Loras on Friday night.

On the women's side, Bre Hinson was first to win a race with a 2:08.05 time in the 200-yard freestyle. Kate Minette, who later won the 100-yard freestyle, was right behind Hinson with a 2:08.18 race to place third in the event.

Keelin Curley and Alyssa Harris collected two more first-place finishes for the women. Curley swam the 50-yard freestyle in 26.34 and Harris took down her opponents in the 100-yard breaststroke thanks to the sixth-best time in program history, 1:15.70. Katie Oosterhuis posted the Storm's final first-place finish with a win in 1-meter diving.

Hinson (100-yard butterfly), Harris (100-yard freestyle), and Caroline Oberg (100-yard breaststroke) all came in second in their races, while the 200-yard medley relay of Curley, Maggie Steinbeck, Oosterhuis, and Oberg as well as the 200-yard freestyle relay of Oberg, Hinson, Harris and Minette each finished runner-up.

On the men's side, Jay Ceperley posted two wins and finished second in his only other race, the 100-yard breaststroke. The freshman from Hastings, Neb. won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.56 and the 100-yard butterfly with a 57.67 race.

Simpson has a short turnaround before getting back in the pool as the Storm compete at the St. Mary Triangular tomorrow at noon.
