Storm swimmers open season at Spire Relays
LANSING, Kan. -- The Simpson College men's and women's swimming and diving team competed for the first time under the direction of Head Coach Adam Cvetich on Saturday afternoon at the Spire Relays hosted by the College of Saint Mary.
The women's team tallied 86 points to finish runner-up behind the University of Saint Mary, while the men scored 16 points to place fifth.
The highlight of the Storm's season opener was a first place finish by the women in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The group of Keelin Curley, Caroline Oberg, Breana Hinson and Kate Minette finished the race in 1:49.06 to score 14 team points in the event.
The Storm women also produced a trio of second place finishes in the women's 3x100 backstroke relay, 3x100 breaststroke relay, and 800 freestyle relay.
On the men's side, the duo of Jay Ceperley and Nathan Parkins had their best performance of the day in the 500 crescendo relay. The pair of freshmen finished the race in 4:54.99, less than half a second behind the foursome from Williams Baptist, to earn fourth place and six team points.
