Storm suffer 3-0 defeat at Wartburg

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Winners of three out of their last four, the Simpson men's soccer team was unable to keep the momentum rolling, falling 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to Wartburg.

The Knights (8-4-4, 5-2-0 A-R-C) collected their fifth win out of their last seven matches, using two first half goals to set the table before striking one final time out of halftime to secure the 3-0 result. Despite the loss, Simpson (7-8-2, 3-3-1 A-R-C) retains its spot in the standings, and a final berth into the A-R-C Championships beginning next week. The Storm's final home match of the regular season takes place on Tuesday against Coe, with the possibility of a win-or-game matchup on the line.

GOAL SUMMARY

  • In the 21st minute, Wartburg managed to get on the board first, scoring a goal to the bottom right of the net off of a double assist.
  • Just before halftime, Wartburg extended its lead with a goal in the high center of the net.
  • Out of halftime, in the 50th minute, the third and final goal from Wartburg delivered the 3-0 result.

NOTES

  • Wartburg outshot the Storm 19 to 11.
  • Out of the 11 shots for Simpson, three came on net.
  • Ronaldo Ordaz led the way with five shots.
  • Arturo Hernandez collected two shots, both of which came on frame, and Mitchell Dickson added two shots of his own.
  • Mason Chaplin and Jimmy Berna split time in the net, collecting a combined five saves on 19 shots.

Simpson returns to Buxton Stadium one final time to host Coe on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Senior night ceremony will take place before the start of the match.
