Simpson claims first A-R-C series win with statement victory

DECORAH, Iowa – The Simpson College baseball team erupted for a season-high 17 hits in a dominating 15-3 win over Luther on Saturday morning, securing its first American Rivers Conference series victory of the season.

Bryson Gibson and Kasey Carter powered the offense, each driving in four runs on three hits. Jacob Roberts and Will Carlock added solo home runs, while the Storm racked up five extra-base hits in the dominant performance.

Easton Dunwoody picked up the win on the mound as the Storm pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts.

GAME SUMMARY

  • Simpson (8-11, 3-3 A-R-C) surged to a 6-0 lead over the course of three and a half innings. Bryson Gibson drove in three runs with a pair of hits, while Nate Cagley tallied two RBIs and scored on a wild pitch.
  • Luther (5-14, 1-5 A-R-C) got on the board with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fourth. The Norse added an RBI triple shortly after to trim Simpson's lead to 6-2.
  • Kasey Carter hit a bases-clearing double in the sixth, and Will Carlock's sacrifice fly pushed the advantage to 10-2 in the seventh after three consecutive batters were hit by pitch.
  • Gibson tacked on his fourth RBI of the game to put Simpson in front by nine going into the final two innings.
  • Simpson kept the power surging late, with Jacob Roberts launching a solo home run in the eighth and Carlock following suit in the ninth.
  • Carter and Sam Rich drove home two final runs via a single and sacrifice fly in the ninth.
  • Charley Mershon took the hill for the final frame and slammed the door with three consecutive strikeouts
