Storm open Florida trip with split against Greenville, St. Scholastica

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Simpson College baseball team kicked off its Florida trip on a strong note, rolling past Greenville 11-3 before falling 8-3 to St. Scholastica in a makeup game from earlier this season.

The Storm (3-6) broke open game one with a five-run sixth and a four-run eighth to notch their first win in Florida. In game two, Simpson's three-run seventh brought them within striking distance, but St. Scholastica (5-5) answered late to close out the series that started in February.

GAME ONE SUMMARY

  • The Storm set the tone early with a two-run single from Matthew Florence in the first inning but found themselves trailing 3-2 to the Panthers (5-9) after five.
  • Simpson responded with a five-run explosion in the sixth, featuring RBI contributions from five different players.
  • The momentum carried into the eighth, where the Storm tacked on four more runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Drew Carlson.

  • The Saints built an early lead with runs in the third and fourth before a three-run fifth pushed them ahead 5-0.
  • The Storm fought back in the seventh, stringing together runs on an RBI double from Carlock, an RBI single from Florence, and a sacrifice fly by Trenten Kingrey to cut the deficit to 5-3.
  • However, St. Scholastica answered with three insurance runs in the eighth to seal the win.
