Storm drop pair of games against Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Kolton Arnold went 6-for-9 overall with three hits and two RBIs in each game, but the Simpson College baseball team came up short in both games against RV Loras on Saturday.

The Duhawks (31-8, 15-8 A-R-C) overcame a late deficit to win game one 7-6 before winning the nightcap 7-4 over the Storm (18-20, 9-14 A-R-C).

Simpson will conclude the 2022 season on Sunday afternoon against the Duhawks. First pitch is set for noon.

Game 1: Loras 7, Simpson 6
The Storm used a pair of three-run innings to take a 6-2 lead midway through the eighth inning. Nick DiBeneditto then hit a big two-run triple to kickstart a comeback for the Duhawks which was completed with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.

Arnold led the team with three hits and two RBIs, while Luke Willis tallied his 18th multi-hit game of the season. Kaleb Bauer chipped in two hits of his own to go with an RBI and stolen base.

Game 2: Loras 7, Simpson 4
Arnold's third home run of the season gave the Storm a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Loras tallied one in each of the first and second frames, but Brennen Lemke scored Ty Cowley with a double in the third to regain the visitor's lead.

Simpson tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth with a Chris Miller single. The Duhawks responded with two runs in the home half and added an insurance tally in the eighth for the three-run victory.

The Storm offense was once again led by Arnold who recorded his second consecutive three-hit game, extending his current hit streak to eight games and bringing his career hit total to 170. He also drove in two runs to finish the day with four RBIs.

Matthew Marquez reached safely for the 14th-straight game and finished with two hits, and Miller went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
