Held surpasses 200 strikeouts, Simpson wins first A-R-C series

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Brady Held threw his 200th career strikeout and the Simpson College baseball team won its first conference series of the season with a 9-1 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday evening.

With his first strikeout of the night, Held etched his name in the record books once more as the first pitcher in program history to throw 200 career strikeouts. He previously broke the single-game strikeout record with 18 Ks in a 7-inning win over spring break and posted the lowest season ERA in team history as a junior.

The Indianola, Iowa native improved to 4-0 on the mound and finished his night with 11 strikeouts, giving him 63 midway through his senior campaign. He allowed one run on two hits and walked two. Brett Kauzlarich and Dunston Werner held the Prairie Wolves (10-11, 3-3 A-R-C) hitless for the final three innings while each striking out two.

Held, Zach Hollingsworth and Luke Willis each registered two hits to lead the Storm offense in the win. Willis drove in a run in both the first and fifth innings and Hollingsworth put Simpson (11-9, 2-4 A-R-C) ahead 4-1 with a single in the sixth after Kaleb Bauer started the inning with a double. The home team scored four of its remaining runs on wild pitches and one on a passed ball.
