Storm come from behind for five-set win

INDIANOLA - Amy Schuster and Megan Dunlavy combined for 33 kills as Simpson came back from an 2-0 defiict in a 3-2 (19-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-13) win against Coe on Wednesday night.

Schuster had a team-high 19 kills, Dunlavy added 14 and the Storm (13-16, 4-3 IIAC) won their fourth-straight IIAC match after beginning the season 0-3 in conference play. The win moves Simpson from fifth to fourth in the standings, all but assuring the Storm a spot in the conference tournament.

After dropping the first two sets, head coach Lana Smith shuffled the lineup, inserting Lexie Hagerty into the match as the setter and getting Steph Keller more involved in the attack. The move paid off, as Hagerty handed out 24 assists and Keller ignited the offense with eight kills and a .353 hitting percentage in four sets played.

Keller also lifted the team's service, coming away with three aces in addition to Schuster's game-high five.

Molly Steffens had a game-high 21 kills and hit .302 for the Kohawks (16-10, 2-4 IIAC), who beat the Storm in a five-set match during tournament play earlier in the year. Kaitlin McClimon had 13 kills, helped out on five block assists and tallied two block solos for a Kohawk defense which had 12 total blocks on the night.

The Storm enjoy the weekend off before closing the conference schedule with a trip to Cornell on Wednesday, Oct. 27. The match is set to begin at 7:30 in Mt. Vernon.
