Storm go 4-2 in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS - Defending Iowa Conference Champion Simpson opened the 2010 volleyball season in St. Louis, going 4-2 while participating at the Webster Triangular and the Washington University Classic.

After losing a senior class consisting of four all-conference performers and one AVCA All-American, head coach Lana Smith was pleasantly suprised with her team's efforts on opening weekend.

"I was really pleased with our competitiveness and heart this weekend," Smith said. "We still have a lot to work on, but we experimented with several different lineups. Everyone on the trip played and we found out that we have a lot of different options."
Simpson began the weekend by going 2-0 at the Webster Triangular, notching wins over Webster and Illinois College.

The Storm (4-2) split their four games at the Washington University Classic, defeating DePauw and Fontbonne while falling to UW-Platteville and No. 1 Washington-St. Louis.
Simpson swept DePauw 3-0,  a team receiving votes in the AVCA Preseason Top 25 poll. The Storm also went four games with top ranked Washington U.

"We are definitely pleased to be coming home 4-2 with type of competition we played this weekend," Smith said. "We played with a lot of confidence and I'm excited about the potential of this team."

Senior libero Monica Driscoll (Williamsburg, Iowa) earned all-tournament honors at the Wash U Classic, while the Simpson offense was lead by Megan Dunlavy (Bettendorf, Iowa). The junior hit .480 to lead the team.

Simpson opens the Iowa Conference schedule when it faces Wartburg at Cowles Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Sept. 8. The match is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
