Multiple school records go down on final day of conference championships

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Simpson College women's track and field team saw two more school records go down on the final day of the American Rivers Conference Championships.

Maddie Hays broke the school record in the 400 meters, with a time of 57.82. Hays, who now owns three school records, broke the previous record by Kelli Sheda that had stood since 1993.

"Maddie has done a great job for us all year," said Storm associate head coach James Hoffman. "She competed really well in a tough race and was able to come down with another record."

The Storm also saw Teghan Booth break the school record in the 3,000 meters, as she clocked a time of 10:04.91 to claim fifth place in the race.

"We had a ton of huge performances, as our student-athletes performed really well," said Storm director of track and field and cross country Heath Moenck. "I am thrilled with how we competed over the last two days and it was a terrific meet."

The Storm women finished sixth in the team race with 45 points.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Hays now owns the indoor 200, 300, and 400 meter school records, breaking all of them this season.
  • She also anchored the women's 4x400 meter relay team, joined by Maddax DeVault, Ava Carder, and Audrey Arnold. The time of 4:05.89 was 10th all-time in school history.
  • Booth picks up her first school record of her career, after ranking in the top five in multiple distance events. '
  • The Storm 4x800 meter relay team made up of Kaya Young, Kate Huisinga, Angel Schewe, Skyler Blessman clocked a time of 10:00.19, which was fifth all-time in school history and the fastest since 2013.
  • Elise Wieland ran a time of 5:20.58 in the mile, good for seventh all-time in school history.
  • Arnold finished fifth in the 60 meter hurdles final, clocking a time of 9.25.

Some Storm athletes will head to Wartburg next weekend to compete at the Wartburg Qualifier in hopes of cementing a spot at the NCAA DIII Indoor Championships.
