Storm women start outdoor season in Pella

PELLA, Iowa - The Simpson College women's track and field team opened its outdoor season at the Central Invitational on Thursday.

Emily Erhardt and Maddie Hays were two of the standout performers for the Storm, with Erhardt competing in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and Hays going off in the 400 meter hurdles. Each earned a spot on the podium, with Erhardt claiming the win in the race.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Erhardt broke her previous personal best with a time of 11:58.16 to win the event.
  • Hays claimed second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time 1:04.54.
  • Aaliyah Johnson turned in three top 10 finishes in various field events, including a fourth-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 33.70m.
  • Elise Wieland broke the five-minute barrier in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:57.58 to finish fourth, joining Teghan Booth as the only two Simpson runners to break that mark since 2017.
  • Emily Escoto clocked a time of 11:26.29 to set a new personal best and finish sixth in the 3,000 meters.
