Cockman, Langley win twice to lead Storm grapplers
INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College wrestling team hosted its final triangular on Saturday and competed against its final two American Rivers Conference opponents, Central and Luther, but dropped both matches.
The Storm (1-8, 1-7 A-R-C) lost 29-16 to the Norse (3-5, 3-5 A-R-C) and 39-13 to the Dutch (5-1, 5-1 A-R-C) to close out the afternoon.
In the opener, Simpson fell down 11-0 to Luther after three weight classes before junior Jakob Slavin won his first A-R-C match of the season with a 5-2 decision at 149 to jump-start the attack. That victory snowballed into three more wins for the Storm to take a 16-11 advantage.
After Slavin's win, sophomore Robert Silva earned a technical fall at 157 pounds and sophomore Dalton Cockman followed with a major decision. Junior Shyler Langley capped the streak with a major decision at 174 to help the Storm grab the lead.
The Norse bounced back with three-straight pins to overtake Simpson and win their first match of the day after falling to Central in the opener.
Sophomore Dylan McChesney tallied his seventh win of the season with a 10-5 decision at 125 pounds to begin the dual against the Dutch. Central won the next four matches before Cockman and Langley won their second bouts of the day. Cockman provided a pin in 2:14 and Langley battled to a 7-5 decision.
