Storm win four in loss to Cornell

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson College wrestling stepped outside of American Rivers Conference play for the first time this season in a match against Cornell, but fell, 32-16, on Thursday.

The Storm (1-5) captured four victories during the home contest while aiming for their first win over the Rams (2-1) since the 2004-05 campaign and had a chance to do so after the match was sitting at 14-13 in favor of the visitors.

Junior Dylan McChesney produced his third pin of the season to start the match with some momentum at 125 pounds. McChesney placed Cornell's Jonah Kokin on his back in the first period for a 1:02 pin.

The Rams won the next three matches to take a 14-6 lead going into the 157-pound division. Sophomore Robert Silva tallied his second triumph and first major decision of the year with a 16-5 match over Cory Stewart to inch Simpson closer.

Sophomore Dalton Cockman followed his classmate with a slim 3-1 decision for his 21st career win. Cockman's triumph brought the Storm to within one point with four matches left.

Cornell was able to disperse Simpson's hopes of a comeback by reeling off three-straight pins to garner a 32-13 advantage with just one weight class left.

Sophomore Colton Kinnison ended things on a high note by claiming a close match at heavyweight with a 3-1 win over Alex Heisdorffer with the aid of a two-point takedown. Shyler Langley, Cockman and Kinnison are now tied for second on the team with three wins this season, with McChesney leading the squad with six.
