Simpson wrestling drop pair of matches to ranked foes

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson College wrestling hosted its first triangular this season as two ranked teams, No. 1/2 Wartburg and No. 14 Coe, visited Cowles Fieldhouse for a pair of American Rivers Conference matches on Saturday.

After the Knights (3-1, 3-0 A-R-C) won a close 23-21 match over the Kohawks (1-1, 1-1 A-R-C), Wartburg moved past Simpson (1-3, 1-3 A-R-C), 45-6. The Storm dropped a 48-6 match to Coe to end the triangular.

Simpson took an early 6-0 lead against the Knights after junior Dylan McChesney prevailed at 125-pounds during a mid-dual medical forfeit. Wartburg proved they were the top-ranked team in the nation in the FloWrestling poll by winning the next nine bouts.

Against the Kohawks, junior Shyler Langley shined at 174 pounds with a pin coming in the second round. Langley stayed tough through a back-and-forth match to get Coe's Tristin Westphal on his back to earn his second pin of the year. McChesney was in a close-knit battle to begin the dual, but could not overcome Alex Friddle and lost, 4-3.

Simpson hits the road for the Loras triangular on Saturday, Feb. 6. The first dual will begin at noon against Dubuque, followed by a match with the Duhawks.
