Loras pins four on way to 34-15 win

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Loras earned pins in four weight classes Thursday night in a 34-15 Iowa Conference dual victory over Simpson at the Graber Sports Center in Dubuque.

Tiegen Podliska (165), Josh Kirkland (184), Alex Grafft (197) and Jeremy Klein (285) all won by fall for the Duhawks (6-12-1, 1-5-1 IIAC).

Freshman Jeff Sand (Waukee, Iowa/Waukee) earned a pin at 133 pounds for the Storm (1-11, 0-6 IIAC), his third of the season. Sand pinned Brendan Murphy of Loras in 5:28.

At 141 pounds, junior Caleb Brus (Creston, Iowa/Creston) won his third match in a row and 21st of the season with a 4-0 decision over Matt Holmes.

Senior Wade Dowling (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) moved within a match of his first 20-win season with a 4-3 decision over Willie Slayden at 157 and junior 174-pounder Jordy Ammons (Knoxville, Iowa/Knoxville) picked up a 9-2 decision against Matt Dickman at 174.

Simpson returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 2 when it travels to Pella for duals against Augustana and Knox. Wrestling will begin at 5:30 p.m.
