Track & Field turns in solid performances at Jim Duncan

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Simpson men's and women's track and field teams took part in the first marquee-meet of the outdoor season this weekend when they made the short trip to the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake Stadium.

The Storm sent a handful of athletes to the meet, which featured college and universities of all sizes throughout the Midwest.

Women's Recap

Bayley Fleshner was the top Division III finisher in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.57 to place ninth overall. Only runners from Drake, Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Truman State finished ahead of Fleshner.

Hannah Moulds added a ninth-place finish in the long jump, breaking the sand in 16-feet, 1/4 inches.

Lauren Martin turned in Simpson's other top finish, taking 11th in the 100 meters. She posted the No. 2 Division III time in the event, behind only Buena Vista's Maggie Marker.

Men's Recap

Sprinter Brad Vogel stole the show for the Storm with two, top-10 finishes. He took fourth in the 100 meters and ninth in the 200.

Vogel finished the 100 in 11.25, behind two runners from Northern Iowa and an Iowa State sprinter. He crossed in 22.72 in the 200, just .01 seconds behind Grinnell's Ed Hardman, the top Division III finisher in the field.

Isaac Frazier came in fifth in the high jump, clearing 6-foot-2, while Joe Farrand and Matt Pearson took 11th in the 1500 meters and the 400 meters, respectively. Farrand ran the 1500 in 4:11.98 and Pearson ran the 400 in 51.72.
