Storm men have positive showing in first action of 2023-24

PELLA, Iowa - The Simpson College men's tennis team started out positively at the American Rivers Conference Individual Tournament, the team's first action of the 2023-24 season.

All three of the team's members that played in singles flights won their opening matches. Due to weather and moving matches indoors, the singles matches were played to four games a set, instead of six.

Javier Robles Solis, an all-conference performer in his debut campaign last season, won his Round of 32 match in straight sets, before falling to the No. 5 seed in the tournament in the Round of 16.

In Flight C Singles, Drake Downard and Grant Love each picked up opening round wins. Love won his match in straight sets before succumbing in the round of 16. Downard was one of the top eight seeds in the bracket and received a bye into the round of 16. After dropping the opening set, Downard recovered to take the second set and win the third set in a tiebreak, but eventually fell in the quarterfinals.
