Men's tennis splits in Kansas

In action for the first time in nearly a month, the Simpson men's tennis team shook off the rust to split contests against a pair of foes from the Sunflower State.

The Storm (4-6) suffered a 9-0 setback against Friends University in Witchita in the morning before closing the day with a 5-4 win over Central Christian College in McPherson.

Simpson lost 2 of 3 doubles matches but won the final four singles contests to pick up the win. Alex Hook, Dylan Hogan, Geoff Converse and Mike Rundle got it done for the Storm against Central Christian.

At No. 3 singles, Hook won an exciting 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 11-9 battle against Hugo Chavez. Hogan beat Rusy Blanchard 7-5, 6-0 at No. 4, Converse handled Justin McCord 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and Rundle beat JD Williams 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.

Hook teammed up with Rundle for Simpson's only doubles win, an 8-2 decision over McCord and Colby Blankenship at No. 3.

Simpson is off Sunday and completes its trip to Kansas on Monday when it goes to Winfield to face Southwestern.
