Kusick, Reitgraf lead Simpson at IIAC Individual Tournament

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The doubles team of Zach Kusick and Peter Reitgraf advanced to the semifinals before placing fourth in Flight B Doubles to lead the Simpson men's tennis team at the Iowa Conference Individual Tournament last weekend.

Kusick and Reitgraf made Simpson the only team besides Coe and Luther to have representation in the semifinals. The duo beat the Kane/Steingraber team from Loras 8-4 in the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champions Matt Knutson and Sam Bluffington (Luther) in the semifinals.

Kusick and Reitrgraf faced another team from Luther – Aaron Ford and Jack Shanahan – in the consolation match. After falling behind 7-3, they fought back to 7-6 and had break point to tie the match before falling 8-6.

The conference tournament stood as the lone competition for the Storm in the fall. The spring season begins Feb. 1 when Simpson travels to Galesburg, Ill. to take on Greenville and North Central.
